Five on Friday: Volume 25

January 20, 2017

Welcome to volume 25! We’re sharing a few renovation links today, in addition to a fun graphic tiling trend, and some real-estate based trendspotting for 2017. Enjoy!

We are OBSESSED with Emily’s exterior renovation. We always appreciate transparency, and it’s wonderful to hear both the high and lows of a huge undertaking like this. It was NOT a cheap project, but we hope that they more than make it back in resale. Side note: FAVORITE. GARAGE. DOOR. EVER.

Elle Decor published a list of most regretted DIY projects, and we were pretty surprised. Maybe the word “regret” should be replaced with “didn’t enjoy”, or “would have preferred to have someone else do this”, because while we did not love all the work that went into renovating our bathroom, I would never say we regret doing it. The best advice, though? If you’re unsure, it’s always a good idea to consult an expert before tackling any big project by yourself.

Grout is typically meant to disappear, it’s not the element of your tiling job that you want people to notice. But we loved this feature about using colored grout to create a graphic and unexpected element with your tile. It’s a fun way to play with a classic like subway tile. Our favorite: definitely the blue hex tiles with orange grout.

Zillow shared their top home trends for 2017 and we’re pretty much in agreement, although it can be argued that marble has been pretty hot for the last year or so. We also agreed with the characterizations of the trends they expect to go by the wayside. Industrial furniture that’s not comfortable? No thank you. A completely cool-toned monochrome space? We’ll pass.

This bold kitchen is simply perfect. That blue on the cabinets is gorgeous already, but extending the color up the wall for a graphic element? Genius! We love the retro vibe of the tumbling block tile and the red Smeg fridge, although we think the term “cost-conscious” for a $22,000 remodel is a little off.

That’s all for today- (already the 3rd Friday in January- what?!) Have a great weekend!

Let's jump right into it, shall we? Last time we discussed our new custom cabinets: where they're going, why we need them, how we put them together, and how we use them. BUT, we didn't get to the crowning jewel: the handmade herringbone countertop. I … [Read More...]

Baby Boy Muratet has been around for 2 months now, and we've got just a few finishing touches to go on his awesome nursery. (It's really just those last details- isn't the final 10% of a project the hardest to get done?) But, we've also got two … [Read More...]

Baby Muratet’s Nursery Plan

We welcomed our little boy to the world on March 13th, and I've been working on a plan for his room for quite some time. Is it nearly done? Obviously not. But you know what? Newborns can't see past about 14 inches away for the first little while, so … [Read More...]
