Five on Friday: Volume 7

August 12, 2016

We’re feeling so inspired by projects around the country (and the world!) this week, so we’re taking on Five on Friday on the road!

Closest to home is this hotel project in Austin, Texas. Mixing materials is one of our favorite ways to make a space look rich. Check out the masterful work by Studio 11 Design (I mean- that bar!) It’s a perfect mix: geometry, rustic elements, shiny metallics, and sophisticated marble. Replicating this idea in your foyer (use marble subway tiles, reclaimed planks, and metallic spray paint) would greet your guests with a wow!

Next up is a quick trip over to the West Coast- California artist Erin Kinsey is all about bringing the outdoors in. She creates living walls out of harvested moss- zero maintenance living works of art!

Over in Manhattan- everyone’s favorite couple: John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are living in a dream apartment. It’s no surprise that cookbook author Chrissy has such an enviable kitchen, I don’t know if we could love it more! That navy. Always. Dark wood cabinetry, gorgeous herringbone floor, those gold stools- can we have it all?!

A jaunt across the pond takes us to Monaco- where design fans have recreated the Pantone Cafe, an homage to the famous Pantone spectrum of colors, where every detail is color-coded. Sip on an avocado and mint juice (Green Eyes: Pantone 16-0224), indulge in a bite of an eclair in Strawberry Pink: Pantone 16-1731, and snap a few instas next to the shipping container-shaped cafe painted (naturally) Monte Carlo Red: Pantone 18-1764.

After a long flight to Melbourne, you’ll want to stop in for some refreshments at Cotta Cafe . The designers created a comfortable urban space with a mix of textures and warm tones. Personally, we’re obsessed with the modern use of terra cotta and copper light fixtures!

This whirlwind design tour has been a blast- let’s see where next week takes us!

Custom Cabinets: The Dramatic Conclusion

Let's jump right into it, shall we? Last time we discussed our new custom cabinets: where they're going, why we need them, how we put them together, and how we use them. BUT, we didn't get to the crowning jewel: the handmade herringbone countertop. I … [Read More...]

Custom Cabinets That Changed Our Lives

That title is not hyperbole, y'all. We're working on catching up with sharing everything we've done in the past year or so, and today I wanted to get down to the nitty gritty of the most useful project we've done at our home. I've … [Read More...]

Playing Pretend With a Girl’s Nursery

Baby Boy Muratet has been around for 2 months now, and we've got just a few finishing touches to go on his awesome nursery. (It's really just those last details- isn't the final 10% of a project the hardest to get done?) But, we've also got two … [Read More...]

Baby Muratet’s Nursery Plan

We welcomed our little boy to the world on March 13th, and I've been working on a plan for his room for quite some time. Is it nearly done? Obviously not. But you know what? Newborns can't see past about 14 inches away for the first little while, so … [Read More...]
